WHAT WAS I THINKIN'

Copyright 2010 – Robert E. Shandor

We were hot and heavy
Hangin’ in my Chevy
I was flyin’ higher than Neil Armstrong
I shoulda known better
As I fumbled with her sweater
This wouldn’t be the last thing I was gonna get wrong

She made me feel mighty
When she teased me in her nightie
Playin’ Fay Wray to my beastly Kong
I was down-and-dirty
She was fast-and-flirty
How did I ever think that we would get along

What was I thinkin’, what could I been drinkin’
How did I manage to misplace my mind
What was I drinkin, what could I been thinkin’
How did I fool myself for such a long time

She always called me honey
As she helped me spend my money
Minus my checkbook I’d be straps for her sarong
She always liked to hurry,
Kept things kinda blurry
Hid from me my role as her tag-along

Our love talk didn’t matter
Meant nothin’ more than chatter
We were both rehearsin’ for our pendin’ swan song
‘Cause I was down-and-dirty
She was fast-and-flirty
How did I ever think that we would get along

What was I thinkin’, what could I been drinkin’
How did I manage to misplace my mind
What was I drinkin, what could I been thinkin’
How did I fool myself for such a long time

She fixed herself up
Like flowers fresh cut
Said she was goin’ out to play a game of mahjong
Came back with wrinkled dress
Her makeup all a-mess
Was only gone an hour, didn’t take her too long

I woke up on a Tuesday
Turned out a bad news day
She’d left me like a river leaves a billabong
Yes, I was down-and-dirty
But she was fast-and-flirty
How did I ever think that we would get along

What was I thinkin’, what could I been drinkin’
How did I manage to misplace my mind
What was I drinkin, what could I been thinkin’
How did I fool myself for such a long time

What was I thinkin’
What could I been drinkin’
What was I thinkin’
What could I been drinkin’
What was I thinkin’
What could I been drinkin’
What was I thinkin’
What could I been drinkin’
What was I thinkin’, thinkin’
