IT DON'T COME FOR FREE

Copyright 1973, 2009 – Robert E. Shandor

Well, I stepped out of the shower fightin' off a

Panic attack

I looked at the years been passin' me by I knew they

Never would come back

I put on my shirt, my pants and my shoes, and then I

Combed my hair

Hurried out of my front door, I knew that

She'd be waitin' there

Well you know that I'm a jealous man

And my love it don't come for free

So if there's a man inside her house

She'd better hope that it's me

Walkin' down the sidewalk comin'

Up to her place

My head was swimmin' with visions of seein'

Her lovely face

Cause I remember the day that we first met

Just like it was yesterday

And there ain't nothin' that I'd like to see less

Than to see her go away

Well you know that I'm a jealous man

And my love it don't come for free

So if there's a man inside her house

She'd better hope that it's me

Then I turned the corner and I could

See her house

I pulled out a ring as I wondered how I would

Ask her to be my spouse

Then from her house, I saw a man come and he

Headed for his car

I yelled at him just as loud as I could

"You'd better stay where you are"

Well you know that I'm a jealous man

And my love it don't come for free

So if there's a man inside her house

She'd better hope that it's me

He looked at me with frightened eyes 'cause I was

Runnin' hard and fast

"If you've been messin' with my woman, friend,

Oh well -- you know she'll be your last

But as I drew abreast of him my lady

Ran up to me

"He's a policeman come about a ticket, love,

So you'd better let him be

Well you know that I'm a jealous man

And my love it don't come for free

So if there's a man inside her house

She'd better hope that it's me

Well I told him I was sorry, but he would

Have to understand

That if a man don't protect his woman, well,

Then he ain't a man

By the end of the day she had taken my ring and

Pledged her love to me

And she knew damn well that she'd better not

Ever mess around on me

Well you know that I'm a jealous man

And my love it don't come for free

So if there's a man inside her house

She'd better hope that it's me

Well you know that I'm a jealous man

And my love it don't come for free

So if there's a man inside her house

She'd better hope that it's me

You know she'd better hope that it's me

'Cause my love it don't come for free

That's why she'd better hope that it's me
